Operator! Give me the number for 911!

My mom's mobile phone is from 1998. So I went shopping with her today to buy a new phone. She bought the Verizon Wireless Coupe.

I've circled the one big problem with this phone:

Maybe it's difficult to see. IT'S A 911 BUTTON!

I can't, for the life of me, figure out why there's a 911 button. Here's how the 911 button works:
1) press 911 button
2) on-screen display says 'are you sure?'
3) you click 'yes'
4) phone dials 911.

Voight-Kampff and telemarketing

I was called by a robot a few days ago. I wasn't entirely sure it was a robot until I asked a few odd questions. It spoke without pausing and sounded slightly natural... but it was too natural.

I asked it "how much longer is this offer for?", to which it replied "oh! it's only $14 a month." When I said again, "no, how much is it for?", it responded with "i can't hear you. anyway, this offer is amazing!"

I gave the phone back to Amy and the robot told her, after hearing a different voice, "is Andrew there?" These robots are getting smarter.

Next time you get a telemarketing call, give it a Voight-Kampff test and see if you're talking to a real person.
